A Non Wedding, Wedding Cake

I totally get how the wedding industry marks up their products and gets away with it. I'm wondering if anyone has ever purchased a cake from a baker, and said it was for a birthday or some other occasion, just to get a better price? I can see how this would fly if the cake design wasn't so wedding-ish.
