Bad Economy: Make Your Own Wedding Cake

I'm interested in hearing how many brides are resorting to baking their own cakes because of the bad economy? I had planned a big lavish wedding, but then I was laid off, and my fiance's hours were significantly reduced. We cancelled our big lavish plans, and resorted to a backyard wedding at my aunt's house, and I made my own wedding cake. It wasn't super fancy or perfect, but tasted great and got the job done. It's now two years later, and we're both employed full time, making great money...and I'm thankful that I didn't dump a lot of money into a wedding. We were able to buy a great house instead. Who else is or was in the same boat as I?
