Cake Display

A cake display with an impressive stand, is another way to do your fabulous dessert some justice, add to your wedding's "wow" factor, and impress your guests!
Most desserts are put on standard cardboard rounds or wood. You have probably seen the silver and gold foil covered bases a few too many times. Custom dessert stands can be made by a potter or silversmith – even with a monogram. You can also provide your baker with a base and have them cover it with fondant or marzipan to match the rest of the style of your confection. This looks fabulous. Plain boards can be transformed into a beautiful pedestal with the help of ribbon and embellishments, like scrapbooking paper, paint, fabric, jewels, pearls, glitter or flowers. Use a 1” to 2” thick board from the lumberyard – cut to a diameter at least 4” larger than the bottom tier. Viola! Some bakers are willing to lend out their dessert stands to borrow for your event for a small fee, but if not, you'll need to either purchase or rent them yourself. Often times surplus or discount stores that carry designer brand items, will have stands that can be used for desserts. Just yesterday I was at Marshall's, and they had a glass pedestal dessert stand that was 24 inches in diameter. It was only $24.99! What a steal. There was only one of them, so of course I scooped it up to add to my collection. You never know when I'll need it...for my house party or for one of my clients. Whatever you choose, just keep in mind that it doesn't have to be conventional. You can get as creative as you want to here. If you're getting married in the woods, you may decide to use a round cut out of a log. Or, if you're having a beach wedding, you may decide to put your dessert right on a little table with grounded graham crackers all around (makes it look like sand).
