Cake Table

Cake Tables

You wouldn’t think that a cake table could be that important – but it is. It would be a shame if your wedding dessert, a beautiful piece of art was displayed in a dark corner, on a crooked table with a polyester linen and bad lighting, right? In this section we’re going to cover the three L’s of a good table: Location, Linens & Lighting.

Location
When most guests enter the reception – the first thing they look for is what? The DESSERT. We advise all of our clients to place their them center stage for all to see: in the foyer, in the entrance, at the edge of the dance floor. Ideally it should be on a base with wheels so it can be moved during the event.

Linens
It should have the same linens or complimentary linens to the dining tables. Dress is up with swags of ribbon, tulle or lace, pinned up by flowers. Some florist can create special floral arrangements to complement it. Dress the it up with champagne in an ice bucket, flutes, heirloom cutters.

Lighting
Pin spotting is the absolute best way to give your dessert the lighting it deserves. Pin spotting will actually make your dessert appear illuminated! If your wedding is in a well lit room or is outdoors, extra lighting may not be necessary.

Pin spotting is available in most ballrooms or venues, otherwise you’ll need to hire a lighting professional. Pin spotting is usually used for the dessert, centerpieces and other items that need highlighting in a darker setting.

If pin spotting is not available or out of your budget, use candles! An array of candles surrounding the dessert will help it give off that special glow.

If your wedding is outdoors, plan ahead to keep your dessert out of the direct sun. Place your it in a shady area, under a canopy, umbrella or awning.

Here's a perfect example why it's crucial to have a sturdy base for your dessert. Wouldn't you be absolutely devistated if this happened to you!?!?

Unfortunately this happens more often that you might think. But not at my weddings!
