Fountain Wedding Cakes

Let's face it, fountain wedding cakes are out. We have not attended or have planned a wedding with one since 1993. Have you? We thought that we should at least include them in this section, and promise not to make fun of them. Too much.

They are normally designed on tiered platforms, but some can expand over an entire table. There is usually one large cake hoisted up on pillars, and possibly several smaller ones on pillars as well. The fountain usually sits on top of the largest tier, often inside pillars, with another layer or more on top.

If you're into the lit up trickling water show, you might as well consider staircases! A staircase can be extended from one tier to another. Little bridesmaid and groomsmen figurines can be set on the stairs, too. Throw in some tulle while you're at it, and even a castle topper. The water is actually sometimes punch, or even champagne. The champagne can be clear or natural, or colored with food coloring to match the colors of the event. Sometimes different colored lighting is included, that can be either one color or a coloring system that changes colors every few seconds.

There are so many configurations – each unique and built to the couple’s specifications. Many of the designs have multiple and independent pieces, as well as tiered layers. Depending on how many guests you plan to have, will determine how many pieces you will need. If you're into an elaborate look with staircases, but you're having very few guests, consider asking your baker to make dummy layers.

If you're in need of some ideas for how to configure the layers, or just looking for ideas for the general design, try your local library. Libraries sometimes carry wedding books from years ago (1980's) that may have some ideas for you there.
