Usually dark and rich, with honey and nuts, a grooms cake reflects the hobbies or occupation of the lucky guy. Chocolate wedding cakes often the choice flavor, but often times a dense liquor soaked fruitcake<\a> is the choice dessert.

Given by the bride as a surprise, it is often petite, informal and whimsical, i.e. a putting green with golfer figurines, an iPhone, his favorite football team's helmet, a can of Red Bull, a keg of his favorite beer...you get the picture.

It can be displayed, cut and served with the rest of the evening's desserts, or cut and individually boxed for guests to take home as favors. Finding the perfect little favor box is another thing to add on your long wedding list, last thing you need right? Think of it as another way to add some more flavor to your event. They're pretty easy to find online, and inexpensive if you buy in bulk.

The tradition dates back to the pioneer days, and is still very big in the south. We can't say that we have ever planned nuptials, or attended events with one of them in our parts. Even if a Northern California bride wanted one, it usually does not fit in the budget. If it is on the original list of desires, it's usually one of the first things to be cut. That, and the wedding video!
