Plating Your Cake

Plating your cake? As if you need to think about any more details! But ya do. After spending all that time choosing the perfect icing and decor, making sure it was center stage at the reception, was well lit…on the proper table, etc., wouldn’t it be a shame if it was simply plopped on a dish, served to guests, and that’s it? Is that the best presentation possible for the glorious masterpiece? Not really. Do it some more justice. Turn it up a notch or two. Wow your guests that much more.

Ask the catering staff to decorate or garnish the dishes with something that complements the color, texture or taste of the dessert. It could be as simple as a sprig of mint. Or it can be something that complements the overall taste. What are we talking about? Fresh berries, a scoop of ice-cream, fruit coulis, cocoa powder, edible gold dust, powered sugar, powdered espresso coffee, a chocolate covered strawberry! That's all it takes.

We have worked with many clients who have opted to use the venue's standard plates for the main meal to save on costs. Then they rented fancy plates for the dessert. It dresses it up that much more. Dessert plates are usually smaller, so are not as expensive as a dinner plate or a charger.

Really, there are endless possibilities, and the presentation of any confection is just another way to make loved friends and family feel special.
