Seashell Cake Topper

Getting married on or near the beach? Then consider a seashell cake topper. It would be the perfect complement to your beach wedding cake. They can be real (wash them well!), or can be made from a variety of icing, like marzipan or chocolate. If you opt for real ones, you and your fiancé could go on a romantic walk on the beach and find them yourselves. Otherwise, plenty of coastal thrift and gift stores sell them in bulk. Or check online, you can purchase them by the pound!

You can also find plenty of fake versions, made out of glass, ceramic and plaster at your local wedding supply shop, and online. Some of the fake ones have battery operated tea lights inside so the shells light up. Great for an evening wedding.

A cluster of the same size can be used, or just a single large one, or a large one with many smaller ones around them. The theme can be used throughout the dessert and become the main design, or used sparingly throughout, like at the base or on a few layers.

So which ones? Beaded periwinkle, cowrie, sand dollars, Florida cone, and maculated ear moon, are some of the most beautiful options for decoration. Small pieces of coral, is also another great choice. So are sea stars (ya know, what we know as starfish, but they’re actually not stars at all).

We just did a visit to Avila Beach and walked far out onto the pier. It's really cool with a glass bottom restaurant and lots of working fish boats to see. There was a little boutique on the pier with the most amazing set of shells for sale. Every size, color and shape you can imagine.
