Seashell Cake Topper

I guess the thing you really need to pay attention to if you use real shells in a seashell cake topper is that they're washed really well. I think soaking them in bleach may be what's needed to get the fishy ocean smell out. I have shells sitting in my house as decorations and they have a faint fishy smell. It would not be very appetizing to have a fishy smelling shell on the top of a wedding cake.
