Working with Fondant

I read an article about working with fondant recently and it said that it's not advised to work with it in hot or muggy weather. I live in Texas where it's really hot and muggy in the summer months. Is it not advised for me to even try it? What if I live in an air conditioned apartment or have a fan running in the room to keep it cool?
